The original renegade homo punks of sketch comedy
make L.A. Gay Pride 2008 “Nellie-licious!”

THE NELLIE OLESONS

"Brazen sketch comedy trio is high-octane, high-camp" - Vanity Fair
“Clearly nothing is off limits for this raucous comedy group” - Entertainment Weekly
"Defiantly disgusting and refreshingly raunchy" - Los Angeles Times

Los Angeles, CA – THE NELLIE OLESONS kick L.A. Gay Pride 2008 in the nuts with NELLIE-LICIOUS!, their all new show featuring the legendary trio’s classic brand of “faster is better” comedy that often (mostly) pushes way beyond the boundaries of good taste.  From the twisted brain of founding member Terrence Michael comes “The Veeg Sisters” (the infamous penis-tucking, flute-playing “sister” act whose short video played to shocked audiences at Outfest 2007), “The Marlee Matlin Sing-A-Long Songbook” and a Mommie Dearest-infused take on The Diary Of Anne Frank.  Also on hand are a slew of political and pop-culture bombing monologues from co-founder Nora Burns  (“Disney Darfur,” “Showbiz Mom”) and John Cantwell‘s aggro-choreographed dance routines (“Lil’ Baby Friend’s Tribute to Jaws 2" and “The Tap Dancing Centaurs”).  Mix in the Nellie’s penchant for ratty wigs and next-to-nothing  costumes from Hollywood Blvd. and you’ve got one delightfully dark evening of sexy, NELLIE-LICIOUS-ness not to be missed during this year’s Pride.

Taking their name from the pop culture icon of Little House On The Prairie, The Nellie Olesons were founded by Burns and Michael in New York in 1993 (Cantwell joined in 1996).  The group has created 11 critically acclaimed sketch comedy shows and have toured the U.S. and Canada extensively.  Based in LA since 1998, they have performed at Luna Park, Highways, The Laugh Factory, the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center and The Cavern Club.  Their short film, The Nellie Olesons, won the Audience Award for Best Short Video at Outfest in 1997 and they will be featured in the upcoming film, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, starring Michael Cera (Superbad, Juno).  The comic trio has also appeared (together and apart) in Legally Blonde, “Nip/Tuck”, “Will & Grace”, Broken Hearts Club, “The Riches” and Logo’s “Wisecrack” series.

“Brazen sketch comedy trio”,
is “high-octane high camp.”
Vanity Fair

"Fast, smart, good-natured, ribald to say the least and inarguably hilarious."
New York Times

"Clearly, nothing is off limits for this raucous comedy group... twisted enough to keep the audience happily offended."
Entertainment Weekly

"The troupe's assaults on taste push way past the more mainstream boundaries observed by kindred companies like the Groundlings and Acme... incisive and hilarious... risky (and risque).
Los Angeles Times

"Funnier than f*ck - whoops (see what a bad influence they are?).
LA Weekly

"From the first time I saw them perform, back in the early 90's, I've been a die-hard devotee of the Nellie Olesons. Some people talk about being edgy and un-PC. These kids live it...and they've been serving it up for over 10 years - long before South Park and the Chappelle show. Why Loren Michaels or Logo hasn't snatched them up, is beyond me. From Terrence Michael's uncannily deranged Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford as The Miracle Worker, to Nora Burn's blow job-mouthed Mrs. Porn infomercial spokesperson, to John Cantwell's there's-something-wrong-with-this-girl beauty queen, Connie Slocum, the Nellie's have given me belly laugh after belly laugh. I'll always be haunted by the image of John and Terrence, their penises tucked between their legs, playing the Taxi theme song on their lutes. And I chuckle to this day about the Junkie Jones sketch, wherein Nora Burns, as a heroin addict with her own daytime talk show, wanders catatonically about the audience with a mic. The Nellie's are smart, fearless, offensive and willing to do nudity if the part calls for it. Now what more can you ask from a night at the theater?"
