THE NELLIE OLESONS kick L.A. Gay Pride
2008 in the nuts with NELLIE-LICIOUS!, their all new show
featuring the legendary trio’s classic brand of “faster is better”
comedy that often (mostly) pushes way beyond the boundaries of good
taste. From the twisted brain of founding member Terrence
Michael comes “The Veeg Sisters” (the infamous penis-tucking,
flute-playing “sister” act whose short video played to shocked
audiences at Outfest 2007), “The Marlee Matlin Sing-A-Long Songbook”
and a Mommie Dearest-infused take on The Diary Of Anne
Frank. Also on hand are a slew of political and pop-culture
bombing monologues from co-founder Nora Burns (“Disney
Darfur,” “Showbiz Mom”) and John Cantwell‘s aggro-choreographed
dance routines (“Lil’ Baby Friend’s Tribute to Jaws 2" and
“The Tap Dancing Centaurs”). Mix in the Nellie’s penchant for ratty
wigs and next-to-nothing costumes from Hollywood Blvd. and you’ve
got one delightfully dark evening of sexy, NELLIE-LICIOUS-ness
not to be missed during this year’s Pride.
Taking their name from the pop culture icon of Little House On
The Prairie, The Nellie Olesons were founded by Burns and
Michael in New York in 1993 (Cantwell joined in 1996). The group
has created 11 critically acclaimed sketch comedy shows and have
toured the U.S. and Canada extensively. Based in LA since 1998,
they have performed at Luna Park, Highways, The Laugh Factory, the
L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center and The Cavern Club. Their short film,
The Nellie Olesons, won the Audience Award for Best Short
Video at Outfest in 1997 and they will be featured in the upcoming
film, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, starring Michael Cera
(Superbad, Juno). The comic trio has also appeared
(together and apart) in Legally Blonde, “Nip/Tuck”, “Will &
Grace”, Broken Hearts Club, “The Riches” and Logo’s
“Wisecrack” series.
